Dr. Robert Campbell - 2004
The President’s Council Chair in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery
A permanent President's Council Endowed Chair was awarded to one of our professors in the department of Orthopaedics, Dr. Robert Campbell. Dr. Campbell is an amazing orthopaedic surgeon who invented the Vertical Expandable Prosthetic Titanium Rib to save the lives of children whose rib and spine abnormalities do not allow normal lung growth. This is the first truly new FDA-approved medical device for spine deformity treatment since 1962. Families come from around the world to San Antonio, where Dr. Campbell has performed 210 titanium rib implants at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital, where he serves as director of the hospital's Thoracic Institute.
